Originally called Centennial Gardens, the park was unveiled in 1967 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Canada. The park contains a portion of the Merritt Trail and a disc golf course and visitors can view a special Centennial gift to the City, a totem pole. In 2021 the park was renamed after Richard Pierpoint, one of Canada’s most famous black loyalists, who spent much of his adult life in St. Catharines after receiving a land grant that included some of the property which is currently occupied by the park.
Disc Golf
The St. Catharines Disc Golf Club has installed an 18-hole disc golf course in Richard Pierpoint Park. Disc golf is very similar to traditional golf, except instead of hitting a ball into a hole with a club, players throw a disc into a metal basket. People young and old can enjoy disc golf and best of all, if you already have a disc, it's free to play! Disc golf can be played year round, even in the snow. Contact the St. Catharines Disc Golf Club for more information about the course and to learn about how you can get involved.
